Luciano
Pavarotti, one of the most famous tenors ever, has been performing for
40 years. Over the last decade, along with his co-tenors Carreras and
Domingo, he has also contributed to one of the most extraordinary
public acclamations of opera, in the shape of the ever-popular Three
Tenors concerts, originally associated with football's World Cup. This
summer he makes an appearance in his own right in a picnic concert in
London's Hyde Park with a clutch of classical cross-over youngsters:
Charlotte Church, Vanessa Mae and Russell Watson.
This concert is Pavarotti’s only UK tour date in 2001, having wowed
an albeit rather rain sodden crowd, including Prince Charles, in Hyde
Park over a decade ago.
The event is tied into Safeway's Italian theme and, weather
permitting, will be as easy on the ear as your picnic will be on your
stomach. Please note that no alcohol or drinks in glass or cans are
permitted to be brought into the event, nor are chairs, tables,
barbecues or prima-stoves. Food carrying containers cannot exceed 18
inches x 18 inches x 12 inches.
